Body Composition Testing with the Bod Pod

The Bod Pod is a method of determining your body composition, that is – how much of that number on the scale is fat and how much is lean tissue. Why is this important? Well for one thing it can help you determine your ideal weight based on body fat percentages. It can also help you determine how many calories your body burns just by living life (your resting metabolic rate). It is just one more piece of information that will empower you as you move forward along the journey.

Fat Loss Step 5: Make the commitment

I Owe You. You give me something I need – and in return I PROMISE to give you something in return. A basic contract, an agreement. I’ve entered in to them lots of times and I am sure you have too! But when it comes to making a promise to yourself do you make yourself a contract and follow through?

Fat Loss Step 4: Know What You Need

I don’t have children (yet) but I live in a house with a few really awesome kids. I’ve noticed that when the kids want something, they identify it, ask for it, and (if persistent enought) usually end up getting it. The youngest is my favorite – when he wants something and doesn’t have the words for it he will simply take my hand and walk me over to it. If he can’t reach it with my hand, he’ll throw my hand in the general direction. Boy, that kid captures my heart. It’s really hard to say no when he is so cute about it!

Fat Loss Step 3: Know Where You Are

I’m not one for horror movies. I guess I’m just way, way too gullIble and fall prey to the director’s use of images and sound to manipulate the thing in my body that causes stress, fear, and jumpiness (my technical term). It happens all the time. We can see it coming – the sweet, innocent, heroine starts running up the stairs – running to get away from whatever is chasing her – and then the music builds and BAM! AH! *blood curdling* SCREAM! She runs right in to his trap.

Is this your relationship with your bathroom scale?

Fat Loss Step 2: Know Where You Are Going

Word of mouth advertising works. Customer testimonials are worth much more than the words of a highly trained marketing department. I can still remember the nights I spent up researching other people’s experiences using certain products, programs, books, potions. I wanted to know that there were real people who had made this thing (insert any [...]

Fat Loss Step 1: Know What You Want

I found myself asking “So what do I want?” I know the obvious. I have the numbers in front of me: I want to lose 130 pounds of fat and I want to lose 28 inches off my waist… but is that really what I want? Can I really be “negative 130 pounds negative 28 inches” ? Will that get me out of bed, consistently, at 8am to run? Will that get me through the day on fewer calories than a single buffet meal?

Overcoming weight loss barriers with a prep week

It seems like almost every diet or weight management book begins by bringing you to a place where you look back at all your past failures, declare (with gusto might I add) that it was your last program’s fault (it was either no carb, high carb, low fat, high fat, not balanced, ect), and then begin to salivate over how this program is different. “This is the key to weight loss. This is it – YOUR GOLDEN TICKET.” You read fervently, make promises to yourself (and possibly to other people) and wait for Monday to come. “This is going to be great.”
