Book Review: Where Did All The Fat Go?
I wanted more than anything to be on The Biggest Loser… that’s actually a nice way of saying that I became OBSESSED with everything having to do with the casting and audition process. I treated it like a job interview – and did as much research on casting tips as possible. The most helpful site I found was Matthew McNutt’s blog where he not only posted his casting tips, he engaged in an all out conversation with folks on how to get the most out of the audition process.
(If you’ve never heard of Matthew McNutt – he has a wicked cool story – he is one of the 36 at home contestants from season 3… and those at home contestants did a kick butt job and got results VERY similar to the results of the folks on The Biggest Loser Ranch)
Needless to say, after my video was created and sent and my VIP pass for a Las Vegas audition was used, and I still hadn’t been contacted for a call back, I got slightly discouraged.
That is, until McNutt posted his review of Rob Huizenga’s book, “Where Did All The Fat Go?”
I immediately bought my copy and studied it like a textbook and was absolutely shocked at how simple and practical the plan was. I read the book back in February of 2008 and it has haunted me ever since. My short review: read the book, apply the book, change your life. Want some more detail? Read on.
Book: Where Did All The FAT Go? The WOW! Prescription to Reach Your Ideal Weight — and stay there!
Author: Rob Huizenga, M.D.
Editorial Review (from Amazon.com):
Finally, you can lose the weight you always wanted to…but not really weight, but FAT! That’s what you want to get rid of. This book tells you how to do it and do it for life!
AshleyRose’s Summary and Review:
Are you really ready to lose weight, get healthy, and change your life? Are you ready to buckle down, focus up, and put in the work? Do you trust yourself enough to take 6 months and actually do something to change your life?
If the answer is yes, buy this book.
Dr. H’s book is a masterpiece — and I say that with the utmost respect for other books on diet and weight loss — but this is the first book on diet, weight loss, and life change that actually spoke to me as an intelligent individual who holds the key to changing my life. The plan presented is simple – eat right, exercise, notice your thought patterns – get the weight off. If followed, you too can have Biggest Loser results.
The book begins with Dr. H speaking to his history and how he got involved with NBC’s hit reality show. As a fan of the show, I found the commentary on how the show was put together particularly entertaining. Do you remember the first episode of Season 3? Fifty contestants in a field, doing jumping jacks, hoping they would get picked for the show. I have no idea how they felt when they realized they weren’t picked – but boy, my heart ached for them…
AND THEN THE TWIST! What we saw on TV was those contestants being sent home to do this on their own. What we didn’t see is the short boot-camp that Dr. H and the team put together to help the contestants along the way. This book, “Where Did All The Fat Go?” is the guideline of that bootcamp.
You’ll learn why it is medically imperative for you to get your extra weight off. You’ll learn what you need to do to assess your situation properly. You’ll learn what to eat and how much exercise is truly needed to get the scale to move in the direction you want it.
And along the way, you’ll read about how the at-home contestants did. It is SO helpful to know where they struggled and where they won – because I know I don’t have to be blindsided by it while I’m on the journey. There are no promises of quick effortless weight loss. There are encouragements to work hard, train like an athelete, and get the weight off. 6 months to change my life? Heck yeah, sign me up!
The back of the book has meal suggestions, recipes, and even shopping tips for fruit (do you know what a Wednesday fruit is?). You’ll read testimonials from those Season 3 at home players (McNutt is on page 299).
In terms of writing style and readability – don’t worry – his writing is fun, direct, and easy to absorb. You won’t need a medical dictionary and his content is complete (I didn’t need additional research to figure out what he was saying). There are even pictures to help with the suggested exercises (including an awesome looking chicken).
Get the book. Read the book. You’ll then have all the knowledge you need to change your life like a Biggest Loser contestant. What you do with that knowledge is key!
